Removal of Antibiotic Resistance From Municipal Secondary Effluents by Ozone-Activated Carbon Filtration

چکیده

At wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), additional steps are introduced for removal of organic micropollutants (OMPs) from the treated effluents, especially pharmaceutical residues. same time, a new concern is emerging: antibiotic resistance (AR). This research studied effect ozonation, coagulation and granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration applied as tertiary OMPs nutrients, on AR removal. Bacterial culture methods in selective media were used to screen four different microorganisms: two faecal indicators ( Escherichia coli Enterococci) sensitive bacteria (ASB), resistant strain each these bacteria, namely Extended-Spectrum Beta-lactamase producing E. (ESBL- E.coli ) Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) (ARB). laboratory scale, ozonation experiments (ozone dose 0.4–0.6 g O 3 /g DOC) using Polyaluminum chloride (PAX-214) FeCl (coagulant 0.004–1 mM/L) performed secondary effluent municipal WWTPs. In addition pilot plant full-scale 0.4 GAC (empty bed contact time 15 min) No significant differences found between ARB ASB which could indicate that can be an initial proxy technologies. experiments, showed good both ASB. However, doses needed reach 2–3 log factor 2.5–4 (ozonation) 250 (coagulation) higher than OMP (by ozonation) phosphorus (P) coagulation). filters, risk enhancement occurred, filters with matured biology. Although not necessarily directly harmful, they pass down their pathogenic via horizontal gene transfer.

Phenol Removal from Aqueous Solutions by Adsorption on Activated Carbon of Miswak’s Root Treated with KMnO4

Background and Purpose: Phenol and derivatives are common pollutants of drinking water which are blamed for crucial adverse effects such as poisoning, cancer, and malformation. In this study, an activated carbon of Miswak’s root (MR) was used for the removal of phenol from aqueous solutions as a low-cost and high surface adsorbent. Materials and Methods: Adsorption exper...

Removal of chromium (VI) from aqueous solution by adsorption using cousinia eryngioides boiss and activated carbon

Adsorption capacity of Cr (VI) onto cousinia eryngioides boiss, activated carbon was investigated in a batch system by considering the effects of various parameters like contact time, initial concentration, pH, temperature, agitation speed, absorbent dose and particle size. Cr (VI) removal is pH dependent and found to be maximum at pH 2.0. The amounts of Cr (VI) adsorbed increased with increase...
